ADDITIONAL NOTES

The opening piece, Earth, was inspired by the purity and diversity of nature.  A sister piece, Earth Has Changed, is a more hesitant variation with ‘outside’ notes representing contamination (pollution) and other negative effects (climate change and global warming) caused by humankind’s activities.  Extinct is about every Earth species that has been and gone, either because of natural events, or because of human-induced extinction.

On a much lighter note, other pieces such as Thunder, Rainbow River and Heat Haze marvel at natural weather events, while The Brook, Sea Breeze, Ancient Woodland and Meadow Moment celebrate specific settings.  Dawn, Morning Mist, Twilight and By The Stars are inspired by different times of the day.  Many natural sounds are incorporated into the music, including natural birdsong, babbling brooks, the sea and insects chirping and buzzing.  Echoes Of The Departed is a folk tune dedicated to those who have left our Earth.

There is an exploratory element to the project, with the Amazon-meets-African tribal drums of Into The Jungle adding a “world music” vibe to the proceedings.  Lost and Unexplored both use mirror music (negative harmony) techniques to create dual simultaneous melodies going off in opposite directions.  And finally, there’s a strong electronic component to the album, highlighted by the intricate sequencing on Thunder and Ionisation.  All in all, Earth Tales is a diverse cocktail of different sounds, moods, settings and vibes, blending ambient music with New Age, folktronica and other styles.  I hope you enjoy it!
